In 2012, Penguin launched its new Summer Internship Scheme. Open to all, the scheme exists to try and open up the prospect of publishing to as wide a group of people as possible. As we all know, getting into publishing can be incredibly tough and so the premise behind our programmes is to give our interns a meaningful, paid experience at Penguin and a solid introduction to the publishing world. On our internship scheme, you will be involved in specific project work – i.e. you won’t spend your time here at the photocopier!
But don’t take our word for it – have a read of this blog entry from one of our 2012 summer interns about his time at Penguin.
Work experience is a great way to get into publishing. Spending two weeks working with one of our teams gives us the chance to really get to know you and for you to learn more about us. When it comes to applying for a specific vacancy, you will be able to talk more confidently about our business and we will have a much better understanding of you and what you can bring to the Company.
Penguin offers two-week work experience placements throughout the year. During this time you will support a team through various tasks. These could include:
• general office duties
• taking enquiries from internal and external clients
• assisting with projects
• attending meetings
• responding to readers letters and emails
We offer work experience placements in most of our departments. You can find out more about the different areas within Penguin in the ‘Working in Publishing: Careers in Penguin’ section Click here
While our work experience placements are unpaid, we do offer a small payment towards any travel expenses.
